WHAT CAUSES ACNE?

HOME   »   ACNE RODUCTS   »   ACNE TREATMENTS

Acne is a skin condition that occurs in people of all ages. Commonly known as pimples, it is actually an eruption manifesting an infection in the skin. Various forms may occur, but the most common is “acneiform eruptions”. This condition is most often observed in post-pubescent teens, and it is generally caused by changes to the hormonal balance of the individual.

As the presence of testosterone in males and estrogen in females increases, a subsequent increase of oils from the skin may be observed. This increase in the natural oils serves to trap dirt particles within the skin's pores creating the infection we know as acne.

While acne is most commonly considered the affliction of teenagers, the condition is often seen in adults as well. The condition may occur because of pregnancy or even a simple change in diet. Older men may see a recurrence of the condition due to the decrease in testosterone levels because of normal aging.

The development and causes of acne occur in different conditions, such as different types of acne, different skin types, and for different age groups.

Retin-A is a common treatment prescribed by doctors. Generally this is chosen because of severe persistent acne. An additional option for the treatment of acne is a facial mask. This is sometimes called a chemical peel. Some treatments for severe acne involve laser surgery, though this procedure is used primarily for removing scarring caused by outbreaks. Further, in other severe cases a physician may elect to surgically drain the acne. >>READ

WHAT ARE THE INGREDIENTS IN ACNE TREATMENT CREAMS?

The primary ingredient in most over the counter acne cream treatments is benzyl peroxide. It is primarily a drying chemical and effective in breaking up the oils on the surface of the skin. Some acne cream treatments are made up of or contain lactic acid. Lactic acid is derived from dairy products and more specifically milk. It is milder than salicylic acid and does not have any analgesic properties. Among the ingredients found in the organic treatments are milk thistle, rice extract, corn extract, and many others. >>READ
